It was a restless night of tossing and turning, sore neck and too much sweat. Thinking about “contraction and passive accommodation” as opposed to “vital adaptation through expansion” ie. growth.  From the first chapter of Art as Experience by John Dewey.

Growth  GROWTH  GROWTH.  Can I feel my way into that larger space? Fill my lungs with early morning air and hang in the moment of a full day ahead of me. I love the word vital. It sounds juicy, fluid and full of movement. I never thought of adaptation as being something vital, more in terms of necessity. Vital adaptation is vigorous and muscled. It is motivated action.
