Performance Lecture Abstract:

Carolee Schneemann pioneered a performance/lecture style of presentation in the late 1960s and has used her entertaining and destabilizing method of contextualizing her artistic process in art history for over forty years. In my performance/lecture I will pay tribute to a great artist and situate Schneemann’s innovative presentation style in the context of her other performance works and the works of other performers. Schneemann’s early association with the Judson Dance Theatre and the development of her Kinetic Theatre will be discussed in relation to an understanding of “body authority.”
