lowering our carbon footprint

Students talked about carbon footprints and then participated in an art activity where some students left their own blue paint carbon footprints on three successive cloth scrolls, gradually reducing the size of their print.

On the first scroll each participating student walked barefoot alone, on the second, they continued on blue-tipped toes with some support, and on the third scroll, assistants helped the student complete the walk using ballet pointe shoes dipped in blue paint.

After students had left traces of their footprints, they shared their thoughts and feelings about the embodied experience of lowering their own carbon footprint and what that might actually become in their everyday lives.
